Dear members of Management of Oluaka Institute of Technology Owerri,
Lecturers,
Students,
Ladies and Gentlemen,

It is my distinct pleasure to welcome you all to Oluaka Institute of Technology (OIT) Owerri, a leading center for “technovation” (technological innovation) within the Southeast region of Nigeria. I’m much delighted that you have chosen OIT as a vehicle to drive you through your Tech journey. With habit and culture of excellence, spirit of determination and perseverance already imbued in our system, be rest assured that you will be taken safely to your Tech destination. It is my hope that you will imbibe and propagate this already established spirit and culture of excellence while at Oluaka Institute of Technology, Owerri.

Meanwhile, it is important to get you understand the historical background that laid the foundation for the establishment of Oluaka Institute of Technology, Owerri. As unemplyment soared and future looked bleak for our teeming youths in Nigeria during the early period of the 21st century, Dr. Innocent and Dr. Mrs. Josephine-Effa Chukwuma saw practical knowledge of Information Technology (IT) as a veritable tool for youth empowerment and self employment. This is predicated on the fact that IT has become the main driver of today’s technological innovation and creativity, and with IT there seems to be unprecedented increase in productivity and efficiency in virtually every productive ventures.

It is against this backdrop that Oluaka Institute of Technology (OIT) Owerri was founded in 2017 to offer hands-on training skillset to Nigerian youths using IT tools. Since establishment, OIT has been living up to its mandate of providing practical IT training, creating Heartland Incubation Hub for Innovation, and providing Skills and Enterprise development with a mission for solving social problems, accelerating growth of small businesses and expanding vocational Skills.

Hence, in 2019, OIT was accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) as a monotechnic institute to run two-year diploma programmes leading to the award of the National Innovation Diploma (NID) on Computer Software Engineering, Computer Hardware Engineering, and Networking & System Security. OIT also runs short vocational certificate courses on Frontend & Backend Web development, Visual effects for film production, Networking and Robotics, Data Analytics, GSM repairs, Computer Appreciation, etc.

After your practical training on Information Technology at OIT, you can be self-employed as a Digital marketer, Front-end web developer, Back-end web developer, Database developer, Network engineer, Cybersecurity technician, Software developer, etc. I, therefore, encourage you to go forth in the spirit of exploration and adventure. Try new things, choose intriguing extra-curricular activities that will expose you to new ideas and alternative ways of thinking, and take intellectual adventures that open up great opportunities and develop some essential capacities.

In terms of human resources, OIT has incredibly talented lecturers who are ever ready and open to be your guides and allies in your exploration. They are your greatest resource. Our lecturers here are leaders in their fields and are applying their expertise through scholarship, research, and real-world practice to address both the most pressing challenges of the day and the enduring human questions. Get to know them, talk to them after class, seek them out at campus events and during office hours, ask them about their research, and tell them about your own ideas. They will challenge and guide you, and help open doors to new possibilities for you.

So, I welcome you all to settle down and have a productive experience in OIT.

For higher education applicants who did not meet the University and Polytechnic’s JAMB cut off, you are not yet cut off, so long as you scored at least 100 in JAMB examination. Come to Oluaka Institute of Technology, Owerri, let’s give you the future you desire in the world of Information Technology.

We are poised to inspire and guide your steps towards your Tech destination.
