The Special Projects department of Oluaka Institute was set up to design projects and develop proposals in partnership with individuals and organizations who having recognised our area of expertise and focus, want to work with us in the areas of technological training; innovation & entrepreneurship; youth empowerment and mentoring.
In January 2023, The Special Projects Department of Oluaka commenced discussions with the Innocent Chukwuemeka Chukwuma Empowerment Foundation, ICCEF, a family foundation set up in memory of the Founder of Oluaka. Recognizing that both ICCEF & Oluaka shared similar visions of a Nigeria that had empowered youths contributing positively to their communities, states and the nation as a whole, Oluaka developed a project proposal and sent to ICCEF. The major objective of the project was to up-skill, re-skill and connect young persons to jobs in the technology and innovation ecosystem in the south east. Through this special project, Oluaka aimed to empower a total of fifty (50) youths with Frontend Web Development skills that would prepare them for the workforce. The training of these youths, took place in two batches (two cohorts) spanning a six (6) months period.
Under the project, a special Hackathon was also organized in April 2023 to commemorate the second year memorial anniversary of the Founder of Oluaka, Mr. Innocent Chukwuemeka Chukwuma. The event took place on April 4th in the Institute. A total of six (6) startups participated in the Hackathon. Three (3) winners were selected. They were Sharebuy, Softworks and GCS. The three winners won prize awards of one hundred thousand naira (N100,000); fifty thousand naira (N50,000); and fifty thousand naira (N50,000) respectively. Their products were incubated in The Heartland Incubation Hub of Oluaka for a period of three (3) months.
